Christian Education

Welcome to Sunday School at First Baptist Church! We have several different classes available for a variety of different age groups. We do not have any attendance requirements for Sunday School. While many students enjoy coming every week, other students are not able to come as regularly. We welcome your presence, and encourage you to come whenever you can!

Sunday School classes take place before the church service, from 9:45 to 10:45. Child care is also provided during the service. Infants and toddlers are cared for in the nursery from 11:00 until the close of worship, while older children often attend the beginning of the worship service with their families before going to "Junior Church", a time of fellowship among the students during which they are supervised by two adults.

Classes We Offer

Elementary Class
Taught by Kim Cox and Carrol Rexrode, the Elementary class is for students age 3-11.

Middler Class
Taught by Kris Reynolds and Suzanne Minsk, the Middler class is for students age 12 and older.

The Parlor Class
This adult class is taught by Pastoral Associate Norman Norton and will be exploring the epistle of 1 Corinthians. Some members of the class are just beginning their life in Christ, others bring decades of experience to the discussion. All are welcome.

The Pastor's Study
Janet and John French will be leading this adult class based on a new book by John Ortberg called Soul Keeping. From the publisher: "The soul in NOT a theological and abstract subject. The soul is the coolest, eeriest, most mysterious, evocative, crucial, sacred, eternal, life-direction, fragile, indestructible, controversial, expensive dimension of your existence.  Jesus said it's worth more than the world. Shouldn't you get pretty clear on exactly what it is? Shouldn't you know what it runs on? Wouldn't it be worth knowing how to care for it? Come join us as we care for our souls.

Special Programs

The Christian Education Team hosts several special programs throughout the year, including Advent arts and crafts night, the Christmas Pageant, and the Children's Day worship service. These are also fun and significant opportunities for children who are unable to attend Sunday School regularly. We maintain a small children's library, as well as the adult library, with faith-based books and videos for all ages. We will keep you posted about upcoming programs in the church newsletter "KIT", the weekly bulletin announcements, and with e-mails.
